That Smell

My first thought when getting off the airplane in Santa Cruz, Bolivia was the smell, not the smell of food or trash or something specific, just the overall aroma of Santa Cruz. For the first couple days I just took in the smell, trying to remember what my home smelled like, and coming up with nada. I have become accustomed to this Bolivian smell by now. I am exited to return and compare the smells of Bolivia and the US.

Believe me - It won't seem like long before you are home again. The best advice to give on returning is try to find those who will listen with both ears rather than talk to those with whom have no eyes of understanding what you have lived during the last year of your life. You have changed, those who you speak with have changed, but not to the degree that you have.

  3. Hailey call Uncle Sam when you are about to break down and cry, when you get home sick for your life in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Call Uncle Stu cause he has been in your situation with enduring culture shock. Call Uncle Sean because he will understand and listen with both ears. Call them, Uncle Stu & Sean - BECAUSE they have all been in your shoes - only a few sizes bigger.... You have tons of support and you will be surprised where you find it when you need.
